What you are doing is very important because your very literal translation of Herodotus, though awkward to read, is without the interpretive biases of other translations, and it allows me to check them against a kind of "English original" of the Greek, which is what you have produced. Brilliant. This is a delight for a scholar who cannot read the Greek original, such as myself.
